Offering today the famous image,
purported to be Josephine Marcus Earp,
or Josie (Jose) Earp, second wife and/or girlfriend
of Wyatt Earp.
This risqué, for the period,
and haunting photograph, was sold and distributed by the "Pastime Novelty
Company, of 1313 Broadway, New York, N. Y., in 1914.
There has been speculation concerning "KALOMA",
as to whether this vision indeed is Josie Earp,
as the date of 1914 and her dates do not correspond.
Regardless, the image has taken a life of
its own and has traded in the $3000 range at New York auction houses.
This particular image is near pristine, with
the exception of two tiny marks on her right cheek.
Have not had the paper out of the frame,
so, do not have an opinion if these "blemishes" would clean away.
The image is sharp and the several original
pink spots are still pink (lips, etc.)....
The image is on a "self-framed" paper, that
measures 12 inches by 5 inches and the period and original frame is
10 inches by 18 1/2 inches.
It has embossed KALOMA in gold letters
and in lower right embossed "COPYRIGHT 1914 P. N. CO."
Picture is lightly applied to a brown
paper.
It was originally sold and framed in Honolulu,
as evidenced by tag is on back, (see pictures).0061000
