Pleased
to offer today, from our personal collection, a special little "PENNY TOY"
three piece Train, with the Original Box. (Not exactly sure this size toy
is considered a "Penny Toy"). The box and the train don't give us a hint
as to maker, except there are American indicators on the box. So,
if German, it was made for the American market. Will add to listing
if anyone is willing to ID for us. Will date very early 1900s or late 1800s.
The
Engine on the box says "CENTENNIAL"; the Baggage Car says" "N. Y. AIRLINE
RR" & U.S. POSTAL CAR" and there is also a "SMOKING CAR." Also,
on the side of the box is a sticker" "No. 667...1/12 DOZ. R. R. TRAIN".
The tin Engine is marked on both sides with what looks like 'VICTOR".
The
Engine and two passenger cars are made of Tin and have thin cast iron wheels.
The paint is about 70%, as pictured. The Red on the Passenger Cars
survived pretty well, while the Blue on the roofs did not. The Engine
was Yellow, Green, Black and Red. The Engine is 5 1/4 inches long
and 3 inches tall; the Passenger Cars are 5 inches long and about 3 inches
tall. Pass. Cars each have hooks on one end and holes on the other,
to attach together to the hole in the Engine. The Box is 9 3/4" by
5 1/2" x 2 1/8" tall; has a couple of loose corners, but is generally Very
Good Condition. The Train is in Very Good Condition, excepting the
paint loss; there is little or no rust, no serious dings or dents or tears
in the tin.
